Bookworm Ch. 03
I didn't have any friends, as I moved here to finish college, and then wound up staying. I wasn't really anti-social, I was just far too busy to meet people. Hopefully, that would change soon. I walked into work to find Brenda at her usual post behind the counter.
She was wearing a normal t shirt again, only this time, she looked crazy depressed. She looked like she may have been crying all night. 'Hey Brenda, how's it going?' I asked, knowing full well the answer was not good. Her eyes lit up a bit when she saw me.
'Better now that you're here. I had a pretty rough morning. ' 'What happened?' 'My boyfriend broke up with me. ' 'What?' I asked.
'How. . . why? You don't need to answer that.
' 'No it's ok. We've been having a lot of issues lately. I guess he's just not attracted to me anymore. ' She looked down when she said this.
I could tell things could look bad if she kept talking about it. 'He's crazy, you're definitely a catch. ' I put my hand on her shoulder. 'It's his loss.
He'll probably be begging to get back with you. ' A tear rolled down her cheek. It was clear she was trying to be strong, but failing. 'Well, even if that is true, I don't think I can let him back into my life.
He has been cheating on me. ' Her voice was now shaking. 'I'm so sorry. That's just bull shit.
She turned and hugged me. Her hand wrapped around the back of my head and pulled my cheek into her right breast. She had a shirt on, but even still, her breast was enormous, and easily accommodated my relatively small head. 'Thank you for being such a great friend.
We just met, but you are already just so awesome!' she said. She wasn't crying, which was good. Maybe I had cheered her up enough. She was, however pushing my face harder and harder into her bosom, and I slowly felt like I was sinking in.
I had one hand at my side and the other on her back. I knew it was best to let her do her thing, so I didn't say anything. 'It's just that, he has been impossible lately, so I'm not exactly shocked. But when it happens, it like, it just rips you open.
I just feel like shit. . . on the inside.
And on the outside. He's been seeing this skinny little girl Michelle behind my back, and it's so fucking hard to handle. ' Half of my face was now engulfed in her boob. I could only see out of one eye.
She lightened her grip a bit and looked down at me. I looked up to meet her eyes. 'Thanks for listening. ' 'Anytime,' I said.
She let me go, and we carried on for a while like normal. It was a super slow day. Not a whole lot was happening in the old bookstore. I guess people don't really think about books too often on a Friday night.
Go figure. We were about to close up the shop when Brenda approached me. 'So. .
. I have a request for you. . .
' she said, biting her lip. 'Sure thing, what's up?' 'This is kind of awkward, but, I don't actually have a car. I have the apartment and my, uh, ex, has the car. Which he took.
Because he's an asshole. I had to take the bus to get here. Would it be ok if you dropped me off?' 'Oh absolutely. Anything you want!' I replied.
. . . .
